Calgary police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a motorcyclist hit and killed a pedestrian early Friday morning on Memorial Drive.

The motorcyclist was riding eastward in the 800 block of Memorial Drive N.E. at about 12:45 a.m. when he struck a woman who stepped on to the roadway, police said in a release.

The 35-year-old woman died at the scene.

The 17-year-old motorcyclist fell from his bike and slid, suffering serious, life-threatening injuries.

The location where the collision happened is not intended for pedestrian crossings, which was a factor, police said.

Another factor being looked at is speed. Drugs and alcohol were not involved.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppersanonymously.
