Mount Temple hiker succumbs to injuries after fall

Mounties say a hiker lost his life on the weekend after a fall on Mount Temple, one of the highest peaks in the Lake Louise area.

The man was out with a group of experienced hikers on Saturday when helost his footing while climbing the mountain and slipped on a patch of snow and ice, according to the RCMP.

Shortly before noon, emergency services received a call about the fall.

With the aidof a Parks Canada helicopter, the man was foundroughly a thousand metres (3,300 feet) from the initial site of the fall. The summit of Mount Temple is3,543 metres (11,621 feet).

"The male unfortunately succumbed to his injuries," Const. Lauren Mowbray said in a release.

"Lake Louise RCMP send their condolences to all involved in this tragedy."

Parks Canada describes Mount Temple asthe prominent triangular-shaped peak capped with ice and snow that towers above the village of Lake Louise.

For scramblers, it says most of the climb "is a steep, strenuous hike on loose scree or worn, intermittent footpaths."
