Gabriel Okeynan's accused teen killer sees CCTV evidence presented against him at trial

A homeless man died in hospital three days after being stabbed in the back and leg, court heard today at the trial for the teen accused of killing Gabriel Okeynan.

Surveillance footage was presented in court today in the trial of a teen accused of fatally stabbing ahomeless man.

Gabriel Okeynan, 45, was attacked near Marlborough Mall in June2014. A Walmart employee found him unconscious, face down in a pool of blood in a smoking shelter, suffering from stab wounds to his thigh and back.

Police determined he had been stabbed and beaten a few blocks away. He died in hospital three days later.

CCTV footage presented in courtshowed the victimand two othermales at the Marlborough LRT station around 11p.m. MT.

A few minutes later, Okeynan is seen walking by himself toward ashelter where he was eventually found without his backpack or hat.

A baseball hat with a zebra pattern on the brim and DGK logo, just like the one worn by one of the males in the video, was seized from the accused's home during the investigation.

Two teens were initiallycharged with second-degree murder.

They were 16- and 13-years-old at the time of the killing, and can't be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Other teen pleads guilty

Both boys were supposed to be on trial together butthe younger teen pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Tuesday.

According to the agreed statement of factsfrom the manslaughter plea, the victim's blood was found on items seized from the younger teen's home.

The investigation also revealed the teen confessed to his cousin in a Facebook message that he had stabbed a "hobo."

Before Okeynan died, he was able to tell police that several teens he met outside the Marlborough station asked him to go for a beer with them, according to the agreed statement of facts.

He then said he was then hit with some sort of club before being stabbed and robbed of his backpack.

The trial for the older teen is expected to wrap up next week.
