Mylan Hicks scholarship created in memory of slain Stampeder

Michigan State University has set up a football scholarship in memory of a slain Calgary Stampeder.

Hicks was a Spartan defensive back and graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology

Michigan State University has set up a football scholarship in memory of a slain Calgary Stampeder.

MylanHicks was a Spartan defensive back and graduated in the spring of 2014 witha bachelor's degree in psychology.

According to the university's website, the scholarship was established at the request of his friends and family.

"Mylan was the kind of guy who always had a gleam in his eye and he always brought something good out in you as a person," said head football coach Mark Dantonio in a statement.

"One of the best things you can say about someone is that they're a great teammate and if you listen this week to those who played with Mylan you kept hearing that over and over."

Stampeders win in Hamilton

Hicks, originally from Detroit, signed with the Calgary Stampeders this spring.He was on team'spractice roster but never got to appear in a game this season.

The 23-year-old was shot to death outside the Marquee nightclub in the city's southwest on Sept. 25.

NelsonLugela, 19,is charged with second-degree murder.

The Calgary Stampeders honoured Mylan Hicks Saturday in the best way they knew how bywinning their first game since his death.

The Stamps overtook the Tiger-Cats 36-17 in Hamilton.
