Calgary mayor explains how city has allocated $202M in COVID-19 pandemic supports

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi gave an update Tuesdayregarding the city's efforts to support the community as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

The city has $202 million in funding from different levels of government,some of which was used toward waiving business licence renewal fees, providing credits to businesses operating in business improvement areas and creatingadaptive roadways and patios.

Now, the city says itwill allocate $73 million of non-emergency response funding to tackle four goals: coping with the pandemic, supporting city partners, preparing for uncertainty and planning for the community's post-pandemic future.

"The pandemic has elevated the urgency and importance of safe and affordable housing, especially for Calgary's most vulnerable residents," said Mayor Naheed Nenshiin a release. "Directing $10 million of this investment towards affordable housing will address enhanced accessibility and maintenance, and additional affordable housing options."

Nenshi said the city may also open another mass vaccination site, if vaccine supply permits adding he'd like to see more front-line workers eligible for immunization.
