The Calgary Zoo announced it has three new penguin chicks, with one more soon on its way.

Two Humboldt chicks hatched in May,while agentoo chick hatched on June 19.

The zoo says breeding recommendations in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) have resulted in the successful hatching of two Humboldt penguin chicks, one gentoo chick and the laying of a king penguin egg recently. (Calgary Zoo)

An egg was also laid by a king penguin. If fertile, it would hatch in August.

"All three of the penguin chicks are thriving and receiving devoted attention from their parents," said the zoo in the release. "In penguin colonies, both mom and dad care for the chick until it is strong enough to survive on its own."

The fluffy additions to the Penguin Plunge exhibit, which houses four species, are part of the zoo's breeding program that has seen seven penguins born since it opened in 2012.

The zoo says a thirdHumboldtchick hatched on June 13but did notsurvive. There has also been several penguin deaths at the Calgary Zoo over the years.
