'Nurse' nabbed for impersonation

Police in Ontario arrested a woman accused of impersonating a nurse,the day after Alberta officials issued a public warning about her.

Brigitte Cleroux Marier was charged in Albertawith impersonation and released on bail, but she failed to show up for a court appearance earlier this year andwas wanted on awarrant in both Calgary and Ontario.

Marier was arrested on Tuesday, according to reports.

Marier illegally got work as a registered nurse in Alberta by presenting forged documents, said the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) on Monday.

Despite not holding a valid practice permit or registering with CARNA, Marier administered injections and performed other acts that are considered dangerous when done by an unqualified person, the college said.

A Calgary cliniccalled the college in 2008, asking about Marier's background and licence. A police investigation followed, resulting in the impersonation charge.

Marier was convicted of similar offences in Ontario and sentenced to six months in jail and fined $60,000.

In 2005, Marier got a nursing job at a hospital in a small Ontario city after stealing and falsifying a legitimate nurse's registration certificate. In 2006, Marier tried to get work as a registered nurse in the Ottawa area, said the College of Nurses of Ontario.
