A school in Okotoks, Alta.,is closed and a youth is in custody after threats were made on social media.

The Mounties were notified around 8:11 a.m. about allegations that a youth "made a post on social media that suggested they were planning a violent act at Holy Trinity Academy," the RCMP said in a news release.

School administration and staff worked with RCMPto locate the youth, said the release, and parents were notified that the school would be closed for the day.

RCMP said lockdown procedures were put in place for students already at the school.

"The person responsible never went to the school at all and there was no imminent danger of the threat being carried out," said Cpl. Curtis Peters.

"Our officers are still conducting interviews with the person that posted, as well as other students and staff at the school, trying to determine the specific nature of it and whether it was a legitimate threat or not."

No one else is being sought at this time.

RCMPdid not offer details on what the threat entailed, only saying it was "an act of violence and it was directed to that school."
