10 Calgary restaurants land on list of 100 Canadian eateries for a big night out

Ten Calgary restaurants were selected for a list celebrating the Top 100 Canadian restaurants to go to for a big night out.

From vegetarian delights to cocktail culture, here are 10 local places diners say make a night feel special

There are many reasons to have a big night out.

And fortunately for Calgarians, many of the best places in Canada to go for a special occasionare right here in Calgary.

On Thursday,online reservation service Open Table named 10 Calgary restaurants to its Top 100 Canadian places for a "Big Night Out."

Calgary restaurants chosen includedThe Nash, Model Milk, Charbar, Bridgette Bar and Ten Foot Henry, as well asGringo Street, Anju, Anejo, Cleaver Calgaryand Elbow Room.

The list was accumulated from diner reviews collected between March2018 and the end of February 2019.The score came from tallying up a set of unique data points, including overall diner rating, user clout, total reviews and regional overall rating.

Restaurants that ranked high in the list scoredhigh numbers of "hot spot" tags in reviews.

Overall, more than 550,000 diner reviews were submitted, for over 2,500 Canadianrestaurants.

Among the hot 100, Toronto led with 38, followed by the troika of Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary. Overall, restaurants in more than 25 Canadian cities were chosen, among them Akira Back in Toronto, Foxy in Montreal and Ayden Kitchen & Bar in Saskatoon.

"As temperatures heat up, so does the nightlife" said Caroline Potter, chief dining officer forOpenTable, in a news release. "This year's list of restaurants for a Big Night Out highlights hot spots where great dining experiences and fun are always on the menu."

And what is considered a big night out? Here's Open Table's definition:

  • The culmination of planning for a gathering of friends, often involving food and drink.
  • A noteworthy happening.
  • A social occasion or activity.
