Calgary's Muslim community is distancing itself from any connection with Ottawa gunman Michael Zehaf-Bibeau after it was discovered he may have spent time in Calgary.

Zehaf-Bibeau, who shot and killed Cpl. Nathan Cirillo at the National War Memorial in Ottawa Wednesday before attacking Parliament Hill, had registered a vehicle using the address of the Calgary Islamic Centre. His car received a photo radar ticket in Edmontonbut the spokesperson for Calgary's Muslim community says no one at the centre knows Zehaf-Bibeau.

"Some of us will spend the night at the mosque from time to time, some of us will spend extended periods of time, particularly during Ramadan, and there is no memory of him ever having slept the night there," said David Liepert, chair of the media relations committee for United Muslim Voice Calgary. "He was not known to the community, he was not associated with the Centre whatsoever."

Liepert says the vehicle's registration was falsified and that none of the Muslim centres in Calgary own fleets of vehicles registered to them specifically.

There also are not any permanent residents at the Calgary Islamic Centre.

Chief Rick Hanson of the Calgary Police Service is meeting Friday with members of the Muslim community.

He says he will be focusing local resources on tracking down any connection Zehaf-Bibeaumay have had with people of groups in Calgary.
