Paskapoo Slopes development plan approved by city council

The development at Paskapoo Slopes is set to go ahead after a majority of council voted in favour of the controversial project on Monday.

2nd and 3rd readings approved in a 12-3 vote.

A development plan forPaskapoo Slopes is set to proceedafter a majority of council voted in favour of a rezoning application for the site on Monday.

Calgary city council passedsecond and third reading by 12 to three votes, withMayorNaheedNenshi, Coun.DruhFarrell and Coun.BrianPincottopposed to the plan for the grassland land east of Canada Olympic Park (COP) and south of the Trans-Canada Highway betweenSarceeTrail andBowfortRoad.

The plan put forth byTrinity Hillscalls for a mixed used developmentthat includes retail, offices and condos,along with a roadconnecting Bowfort Road with Sarcee Trail.

The developer is planning to build on approximately 40 hectares of the lower slopes anddonate the remainder, about 65 hectares,to the city for use as a park.

About 10,000 people had signed a petition against the project asking thecity to preservethe entire area as urban wilderness and grassland.
