Calgary police have arrested and charged a man in connection to recent vandalism at the Peace Bridge.

Police received a call around 4:15 a.m. Sunday about a man vandalizing the popular pedestrian bridge over the Bow River, said Staff Sgt. John Guigon.

Guigon said officers chased the man on foot but lost him on the north side of the river.

Approximately 70 glass panes were damaged, police say.

In a release on Wednesday, police said Brian Douglas Jensen, 58, has been arrested and charged with mischief to property over $5,000, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, and breaches of a conditional sentence order.

Police believe the same man shattered a pane of glass on the bridge in June.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 5.
