Pedestrian dies after being hit by a van in downtown Calgary

A woman has died after she was hit by a vanin downtown Calgary.

It happened at Fifth Street and 10th Avenue southwest around12:30 p.m. MT.

Police say the woman,who was about 40-years-old,was in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a van making a right-hand turn.

Officials say she had awalk signal and theright of way.

Charges are pending against the driver.

Police say the woman's workplace was nearby.

Victim assistance members attended thescene as some fellow employees were "privy to the accident," according to police.
