Police Chief Rick Hanson staying put until 2018

The Calgary Police Service's Chief Rick Hanson will stay in his role until 2018 in an extension of his current contract.

Hanson's contract had initially been extended in 2010 to last until 2015

The Calgary Police Service's ChiefRick Hansonwill stay in his role until 2018 in an extension of his current contract.

His current contract wasto expire in 2015 after initially being extended in 2010. Tuesday's extension keeps Hanson in his role for an additional three years.

The Calgary Police Commission says extending his contract will increase safety in Calgary.

Hanson first joined the Calgary Police Service in 1975 and has worked at a senior management level for more than half of his career with Calgary police and the RCMP.
