Police officer hits pedestrian with truck in downtown Calgary
On-duty officer was driving an unmarked truck when collision happened
A man wastaken to hospital after being hit by a truck driven by an on-duty police officerin downtown Calgary.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, the 69-year-old man was hit by an unmarked police truckat Ninth Avenue and Second Street S.W., police said.
Police said the officer, who was driving a 2009 GMC Sierra, was trying to reposition the vehicle and was reversing near the curb, when he hit apedestrian who was jaywalking diagonally from the east side of Second Street to the west side.
The man suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries to his chest and pelvis and is in stable condition.
The Calgary Police Service said its reconstruction unit was at the scene and the director of law enforcement was being notified to establish what next steps should be taken regarding the officer.
Speed, alcohol and drugs were not considered to be factors.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is being asked by police to call the Traffic Section at 403-567-4000.
