Power mostly restored after 'wildlife interference' causes outage in northwest Calgary

Power has been restored to the majority of customers who were impacted by an outage in northwest Calgary on Tuesday morning.

At around 7:20 a.m., power went out for roughly 1,050customers in the communities of Parkdale, Montgomery and Point McKay, according to Enmax.

A spokesperson with Enmax said power was mostly restored after 9 a.m., following the unexpected outage.

"The cause of the outage is wildlife interference," said Enmax spokesperson ChintaPuxley.

Squirrels and birds coming into contact with overhead equipmentis the most typical kind of wildlife interference, she said.

"Enmaxcarefully installs wildlife protector equipment to reduce interference but it cannot completely eliminate the risk."
