Christa Cachene identified as victim in Ranchlands homicide

Calgary police have identified the woman whose body was found in a Ranchlands home over the weekend and say homicide detectives continue to investigate.

Autopsy underway and police looking to speak with people who attended party at home where body was found

Calgary police have identified the woman whose body was found inaRanchlandshome over the weekend.

Christa Cachene, 26, was found dead in herhome nearthe100 block of Ranchlands Bay N.W. at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Police believe a party was heldat the home on Saturday evening for eight to 12 people.

There were also reports of an attempted break-in of a car in the areaearly Sunday morning, but it's unclear if the two incidents are connected.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who was at the party.

Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm described the case as a homicide but said police are still waiting on an autopsy before releasing the cause of death.

Not a random attack, believe police

"It appears that there was some violence that took place within the residence," he said.

Investigators believe Cachene died sometime after midnight anddon't believe it was a random attack.

Police said her body was found about 17 hours laterby an acquaintance who was looking for her on Sunday andtried reaching her on the phone before finally showing up at her home.

Cachene had two children who lived in the home but they were away at the time of the incident, Chisholm said.

"We've spoken to a number of people but we're looking to speak to others that were at the party as well," Chisholm added."Some have been co-operative and some have been not as co-operative."

A sibling of Cachene's, who asked not to be identified, said the family is looking for answers.

Less than a week before her death, Cachene posted a video to Facebook talking about how precious time is.

"OK, so I realized that time is very, very valuable and that's a piece of your life that you'll never, ever be able to get back, so be careful who you spend your time with," she said in the brief video.
