The City of Calgary has raised a new rainbow flag outside of City Hall after the old one was cut down Friday.

"An individual committed an act of vandalism by cutting the cord on one of the flag poles in front of Historic City Hall. The flag pole was immediately repaired and the pride flag was returned to the top of the pole," saidDaorceyLe Bray, communications adviser to MayorNaheedNenshi.

Calgary police were notified about the incident. Officialssaya review of footage from security camerasin the nearby areamay help identify the culprit.

"I know I speak for nearly all Calgarians when I say that this vandalism is completely distasteful and inappropriate," said Nenshi in a statement. "A hateful act like this re-enforces why it is important to raise the pride flag in the first place."

Several peoplenoticed the flag missing before it was replaced Friday afternoon.
