Crews are on the scene of a smouldering fire at a metal recycling plant in southeast Calgary Monday morning.

City officials activated the Municipal Emergency Plan late Sunday night in response to the fire, which has been burning since earlier in the day at a facility in the 3400 block of Ogden Road S.E.

Scrap auto-parts, rubber and plastics are burning in the fire, but air quality testing so far indicates toxicity levels are negligible, officials said.

Ogden Road S.E. is reduced to two lanes between Bonny Brook Road and 34th Avenue S.E. while fire crews work to extinguish the fire.
