A standoff in Red Deer ended without incident on Thursday, after an RCMP emergency response team entered an apartment complex and arrested a man wanted on armed robbery, assault and other warrants.

Quentin Strawberry was wanted for armed robbery with a firearm, assault with a weaponand forcible confinement, so police were taking no chances when he was located in the apartment on the 5100 block of 37th Street.

"For that reason, RCMP evacuated the building and maintained a heavy police presence with numerous marked and unmarked police vehicles containing the area," police said in a news release.

RCMP said negotiations fell through and the emergency response team entered the residence at 9:15 p.m.

Strawberry and an unknown woman were taken into custody.
