Watch the Remembrance Day ceremony from the Military Museums in Calgary and other ways to pay your respects

COVID-19 has forced many Remembrance Day services to minimize or move online, but there are still many ways to pay your respects to those who fought and died. CBC Calgary livestreamed the Remembrance Day ceremony from the Military Museums: you can watch it here.

Military Museums ceremony streamed online by CBC Calgary

COVID-19 has forced many Remembrance Day services to minimize or move online, but there are still many ways to pay your respects today to those who fought and died.

The Remembrance Day service at the Military Museums will be closed to the public this year but was livestreamed online by CBC Calgary and can be seen here.

Here's a list of the status of other yearly Remembrance Day ceremonies, followed by some information on what will be open and closed.


Jubilee Auditorium

The Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium will not hold a ceremony this year.

Battalion Park

This year's ceremony will be closed to the public, but a virtual broadcast will be available on Coun. Jeff Davison's social media at 10:45 a.m.

Canadian Pacific Ogden Memorial

CP pays tribute to the more than 33,000 employees who served in the two world wars. This year, the ceremony will be held virtuallystarting at 10:45 a.m.

Central Memorial Park

No ceremony will be held this year, and those who visit the Cenotaph are asked to maintain physical distancing and wear a mask.

Field of Crosses

More than 3,000 white crosses honour fallen southern Alberta soldiers. The park will be closed to the public from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 11, though the ceremony will be live streamed.

Fort Calgary

The annual ceremony held at Fort Calgary will also move online this year.

Kerby Centre

The Kerby Centre will stream its annual service from Kerby Auditorium starting at 10:30 a.m. Those interested in viewing the ceremony must register for free here.

Moving around the city

The lack of in-personRemembrance Day ceremonies in the downtown core and along Memorial Drive mean road closures and detours won't impact traffic this year.

Calgary Transit will operate on a Sunday-service level and it's free for all veterans and their accompanyingfamily members. Veterans must be in uniform or have a veteran identification card to be eligible.

Payment will not be required in on-street ParkPlus zones on Remembrance Day. Holiday rates will be in effect in select Calgary Parking Authority lots and parkades.

Parking is free for veterans with a valid veteran's licence plate at all Calgary Parking Authority facilities except the Calgary Zoo and Telus Spark lots.

What is not open?

All city pools and fitness centres andall arenas and athletic parks (except for advance booking).

All city administrative buildings, including City Hall, will also be closed.

North Mount Pleasant and the Wildflower Art Centres will be closed, as will the Animal Services Centre.

The Royal Canadian Legion hasmade changes to its annual poppy campaign, which began Oct. 30.

Thechanges include fewer physical poppies and the introduction of the "digitalpoppy." Those who want to donate without risk can do so online or in a text-to-donate system, at which point they will receive a digital poppy they can display on screens.
