Talisman owner Repsol to cut 1,500 jobs over 3 years

Spanish energy company Repsol which acquired Calgarys Talisman Energy this year plans to eliminate six per cent of its workforce by 2020, meaning about 1,500 job cuts for the company's roster of 25,000 employees.

Spanish energy company Repsol which acquiredCalgary's Talisman Energy this year plans to eliminate six per cent of its workforce by 2020, meaning about 1,500 job cuts for the company's roster of 25,000 employees.

RepsolSA said Thursday in a letter to employees that the cuts are part of a three-year strategic plan for 2016-2020 aimed at making the company more efficient and ensuring its viability.

Repsolis an oil and gas giant with activity in more than 50 countries.Talisman was created in 1992 with a headquarters in Calgary.

The move comes as low global oil prices have forced many energy companies around the world to significantly reduce costs.
