Ruth Degayo's husband arrested by RCMP in her 2006 death

RCMP have charged the husband of Ruth Degayo, who went missing in January 2006, with second-degree murder.

RCMP arrested the husband of Ruth Degayo, who went missing nine years ago, on Friday.

Her remains were found burned and abandoned in a building in thehamlet ofExshaw, about 20 kilometres east of Canmore.

The 47-year-old Airdrie man has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a human body.

Degayo'shusband reported her missing in early January 2006.

Weeks laterCanmorepolice found human remains in a burned and abandoned building nearExshaw.

DNA tests determined the remains were those of 40-year-oldDegayo, but the case went cold.

RCMP called the nearly decade-old filechallenging.

"Investigators from the RCMPhistorical homicide unittook on this file with a determination to solve it,"saidInsp.Stacey Talbot.

"The successes of this unit demonstrates there is no time limitfor our investigators infinding out how and why someone was murdered, and to ensure thatthe responsible personis held accountable."

No court date has been set.
