A New Jersey high school teacher has been arrested after police say he enticed a 13-year-old Calgary boy into criminal sex acts online.

The 29-year-old man has been charged with one count of online enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity.

The arrest comes after a joint Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT)investigation between it'sInternet Child Exploitation (ICE)unit, Calgary police and U.S. Homeland Security.

It started when aman met the young Calgarianthrough an online gaming community, and then escalated as the pair communicated through text messages and video chat.

The man allegedly offered to pay the boy in exchange for sexually explicit images and video chats.

Calgary police initiated the investigation after a parent discovered explicit chat logs. The ALERT team determined the identity and location of the suspect and contacted Homeland Security. The suspectwas arrested by Branchburg police in New Jersey on Tuesday.

"Much the same way the internet is borderless,our pursuit of offenders who prey on children knows no limits," said StaffSgt. John Guigon of ALERT in a press release."We routinely work together with our partners in international law enforcement agencies to target those that sexually exploit children."

The charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison,a maximum potential penalty of life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
