Calgary police ID person of interest in fatal Boxing Day shooting

Police released pictures Friday of a man they want to question in connection with a fatal shooting in northwest Calgary on Boxing Day.

Police have released pictures of a man they want to question in connection with a fatal shooting in northwest Calgary on Boxing Day.

On Dec. 26, Farah Hersi Handule was shot and killed in Calgary's Montgomery neighbourhood.

Calgary police said in a news release on Friday that investigators believe Mohamed Hussein Ahmed, 24, has "critical information" about Handule's killing and have a warrant to get his fingerprints.

"Numerous attempts to contact Ahmed have proven to be unsuccessful and police believe he may be in Saskatoon," police said.

Ahmed is believed to be travelling in a white 2019 Dodge Durango GT or a small black car.

Calgary police confirmed last week that Handule was the same man Ottawa police had been trying to locate for more than two years.

Handule had previously been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a killing in Ottawa in October 2017.

On Sept. 20, 2017,Hamzeh Serhan, 20, was shot in broad daylight in the courtyard of a Caldwell Avenuesocial housing complex in Ottawa's Carlington neighbourhood.

Anyone with information about the Boxing Day shooting in Calgary or who might have witnessed suspicious activity in the area from 8 p.m. onward specifically people runningor getting into vehicles between 8:45 and 9 p.m. around 16th Avenue and Home Road N.W. is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
