One man says the aftermath of a shooting in Sunalta on Tuesday will haunt him for some time to come.

The victim, a man in his 30s, is in serious but stable condition in hospital after he was shot at about 6:35 p.m. at an apartment in the 1900 block of11thAvenue S.W.

The manager of the building where the shooting took place who has since lost his job said he was outside when the shooting happenedand heard the commotion coming from a balcony.

"I heard him scream, 'No guys don't, please don't' and then there was the gunshots," saidRichardGravestock."Me being crazy, or whatever, I ran right upstairs, Ididn't think about the gunshots, Ididn't think about a guy having a gun, nothing. I just ran."

He and a woman from the building got on the phone with 911 and put pressure on the wounds while emergency crews rushed to the call.

"We seen the condition he was in and it was not pretty," saidGravestock."It's going to haunt me for a while."

Witnesses told police three men fled the area in a blue 2017 Jeep Cherokee and detectives said they've recovered a vehicle they believe was used by the culprits to get away afterthe shooting.

Police do not yet have anyone in custody.

Police say they don't think the shooting was a random attack, but it's not known what the motive was.

Several witnesses were taken to police headquarters for questioning, including one who showed up at the Victoria Park police station after the incident.

Gravestock said he feels like the Sunalta neighbourhood is becoming less safe and that he struggled with keeping problem tenants out of the building.

"When economic times are good, it doesn't seem that noticeable, but there's all these people out there who are maybe having to turn to a life of crime to make ends meet," he said.

"I don't know what it is, but it's all filtered to Sunalta now and it's not just this building, it's the whole neighbourhood. And it's not going to get better until the economy gets better."

Anyone with information who has not yet talked to police is asked to call the non-emergency number,403-266-1234, or contact Crime Stoppers.
