Siblings killed in grocery store parking lot collision

The small car driven by Ritvik Bale was T-boned at a high speed by a truck on Wednesday. He was killed in the crash, his sister Rashmi later died of her injuries.

Two siblings have now died after a crash in a parking lot of a southeast Calgary grocery store.

The small car driven by the brother was T-boned at a high speed by atruck on Wednesday.

He died at the scene but his sister, who was in her 20s, died in hospital on Friday.

Friends have identified the deceased as siblings Ritvik Bale and Rashmi Bale. Theyremember them as outgoing and helpful.

"[Ritvik] was a really great guy, a good friend," said Jacob Duran, 19, a friend from junior high at Third Academy.

"If somebody needed help he would be there and he would be helping them. He helped me with my [math assignment] one day, because of him I actually got an A."

Another friend, Rahisha Augustine-Perry, described Rashmi as a hard-working and diligent student.

"She always made a great contribution to her class and tutorials," said Augustine-Perry. "She will be terribly missed."

Former Third Academy principal Anthony Chim said Ritvik had "a wonderful heart for humanity."

"He loved nature, he loved cars, he loved driving around, exploring the city and other places in the world," he said.

"I can't comprehend the whole situation, I'm totally devastated. The family must be going through the most difficult time in their lives."

Officials with Trevi Pools and Spa have said the 39-year-old driver of the pickup, one of their employees, suffered a seizure before the collision.

He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Funerals for thesiblingsare set for Monday.
