Snow lightly falling in mountains west of Calgary

Just like clockwork, there is snow falling high up in the mountains west of Calgary. It just so happens to be one day after Alberta saw its first snowfall last year.

Just like clockwork, there is snow falling high up in the mountains west of Calgary.

It just so happens to be one day after Alberta saw itsfirst snowfall last year.

There have been several rainfall warnings issued for areas in central Alberta, but some of the higher elevationsin the Rockiesare seeing abit of the white stuff.

That has the snow-lovers at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, B.C., pretty excited.

A quick look at thewebcams at Sunshine Village also show a light snowfall is hitting high up in the mountains near Banff, Alta. The resort says this is its first snowfall this year in August.

Rainy summer

The moisture is nothing new for those in the Calgary area this summer.

July was a "rip-roaring kind of turbulent month"in terms of thunderstorms, of which the region saw 19 in July, said Environment Canada's DavePhillips.

Hehas been on the job for five decades, but said the 2016 weather season isn't likely to be one thatAlbertansand others on the Prairie will look back on fondly.

Butif theFarmer's Almanac is correct, Alberta could be facing a chilly and snowy winter. It predictsthat it will be cool and dry this fall, buthigher-than-normal precipitation will hit during winter.

Environment Canada also expects it to be wetter than usual this winter, but it could also be warmer.

The news of today's light snowfall is getting mixed reactions, as snow tends to do every year.

But some people are definitelyon board.
