Some Calgary river pathways close ahead of wet weather

As theCalgary area get ready forfive to10 millimetres of rain, the city says it is closing multiple pathways. The Glenmore Reservoir will also be closed, as of 6 p.m. MT Monday, to recreational use until further notice.

There is also ariskof thunderstorms daily through to Wednesday.

The city released a statement on Monday advisingCalgariansthat no overland flooding is expected, but some pathways may be closed along the river due to some low-level flooding.

"Specifically, the Elbow River is expected to receive 30 millimetres of rain today and 15 millimetres tomorrow," said a city release.

"This is expected to increase the flow rate into theGlenmoreReservoir to 120170 cubic metres per second (cms) bynoon Tuesday. The seasonal norm for the Elbow River above theGlenmoreReservoir is 30cms."

Calgary's water services will belowering the water level in theGlenmoreReservoirto make room for the incoming flow.

River level advisories can be monitored on theAlberta government's website.

The Calgary Fire Department is also remindingCalgariansto avoid boating activities and tostay off both riversin the city.
