Stabbing at highway rest stop north of Airdrie sends one to hospital

Airdrie rural RCMP are investigating a stabbing at the Dickson Stevenson rest stop along Highway 2, north of Airdrie.

Airdrierural RCMP are investigating a stabbing at the Dickson Stevenson rest stop along Highway 2, north of Airdrie. A suspect remains at large and one man has been taken to hospital with injuries.

Officers say a lone suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. According to RCMP, the suspect was driving a black 2009 Buick Enclave with Alberta licence plateBZB 2297.

Police say if spotted, members of the public should not approach the suspect or the vehicle and call 911.

One man was taken to Calgary's Foothills Medical Centre to be treated for injuries.

The Calgary Police Service's HAWCS helicopter, along with RCMPpolice dogs and emergency response teams were helping at the scene.

Police originally classified the incident as apossible shooting, based on a 911 call. According to RCMP, a firearm was observed with the suspect.

RCMPsay the public should stay away from the area around theDickson Stevenson rest stop, along Highway 2 just south of Highway 72 in Rocky View County,as they continue toinvestigate and interview witnesses.
