Calgary Stampede stabbing charge upgraded to manslaughter

Police have upgraded the charge against a Calgary man accused of stabbing two men at the Stampede grounds this summer after Zakariya Mohamed Abdow died of his injuries.

Police have upgraded the charge against a Calgary man accused of stabbing two men at the Stampede grounds this summer after Zakariya Mohamed Abdow died of his injuries.

The 25-year-old victim was taken to hospital in critical condition after a fight involving a number of people near the midway in July.

He never regained consciousness and died in hospital last month, according to Crown prosecutor Tom Buglas.

The other victim wastreated and later released.

The suspect was located after afoot chase off the Stampede grounds.The 20-year-old Calgary man was also treated forstab wounds.

He was charged with aggravatedassault, obstruction of justice and two counts of breaching a court order.

A preliminary hearing on the new manslaughter charge has beenbooked forMay 2, 2016.
