Man accused in Valentine's Day cold case murder denied bail

The man accused of killing his girlfriend on Valentine's Day 19 years ago will remain behind bars in Calgary awaiting trial, a judge ruled Thursday.

The man accused of killing his girlfriend on Valentine's Day 19 years ago will remain behind bars in Calgary awaiting trial, a judge ruled Thursday.

StphaneParent ischarged with second-degree murder in the death of AdrienneMcColl, who lived in Calgary and was 21 when she was last seenon Valentine's Day 2002.

Her body was foundin a rancher's field near Nanton, approximately 85 kilometres south of Calgary, in 2002.

On Thursday, Court of Queen's Bench Justice Glenda Campbell denied Parent's bail application.

Campbell's reasons and the evidence presented at the hearing are protected by a publication ban.

Parent,52, has a criminal history including convictions for failing to abide by court-ordered conditions.

In 2018, police arrestedParent who by then was living in Quebec andflew the accused back to Alberta.

Friends of the victim have previously toldCBCNews thatParent andMcCollwere romantically involved at the time of her death and had a volatile relationship.

Parent, whowas a person of interest at the time ofMcColl'sdeath, bought a one-way ticket to Ottawa days afterherbody was found.

The murdertrial is set to take place in September.
