Drive-by shooting victim knew attackers: police

A man gunned down in a daylight attack has been identified as a 21-year-old Calgary man.

A man gunned down in a daylight attack has been identified as a 21-year-old Calgary man.

Kevin Steven Anaya died as a result of gunshot wounds, Calgary police said on Tuesday after an autopsy.

Anaya was walking near a friend's home in the 1000 block of Marcombe Drive N.E. on Saturday when witnesses say two masked men opened fire before fleeing.

Police said Tuesday that they do not believe the shooting was random and that Anaya likely knew his attackers. The force's gang and homicide units are investigating.

They also said they believe at least two dark-coloured sedans, possibly import models, were involved in the shooting: one with tinted windows and the other with a tail fin.

Police said at least two men, with their faces covered and dressed in dark, baggy clothing exited the vehicles and fired several shots at Anaya. The suspects are about five feet 10 inches tall with light to medium complexions, said police.

Investigators credited witnesses from the Marlborough area with helping them in the case.

Anaya is Calgary's 22nd homicide of 2008.
