Mom of baby in dumpster charged with attempted murder

A mother has been charged with attempted murder after her newborn baby was found in a northwest Calgary dumpster last fall.

A mother has been charged with attempted murder after her newborn baby was found in a northwest Calgary dumpster last fall.

The infantwas heard cryingfrom inside the garbage bin by a woman who was passing by the townhouse complex on theafternoon of Oct. 20, 2010.

She alerted a man who had just arrived in a vehicle, and he jumped inside the bin to get the baby boy.

The baby was taken to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

After a lengthy investigation, Meredith Katharine Borowiec, 30 was charged Wednesdaywith attempted murder, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, child abandonment and failure to provide the necessities of life for a child, police said.

It was revealed one day after the incident that the man who removed the baby from the bin was the father.

He told authorities he had not realized his girlfriend was pregnant, but that she had complained that morning of not feeling well.
