The Calgary Fire Department has closed off part of downtown because some wire meshing is hanging off the 40th floor of a Husky office tower.

The meshing is used to keep birds away from the building in the 700 block of 8th Avenue S.W.

The materialcame loose, so officials closed 8th Avenue from 5th Street to 7th Street for public safety as high winds gust through the downtown core.

The fire department said crews are waiting for the wind to calm down before deploying the high angle team over the edge of the building to try to secure the mesh.
