Woman charged in Sundre dog attack

RCMP say two "pitbull-type dogs" attackeda 26-year-oldCalgary woman just before 2 a.m. MTwhen she was visiting amobile home in the area onSaturday.

She suffered criticalinjuries to her arms and face and was first taken to the local hospital before being flown to the Foothills Hospital, where she is expected to recover.

"While doing our very best in advancing this investigation, we are also very cognizant of how this incident has impacted the victim, her family,and emergency workers attending the scene", said Cpl. Ryan Hodge, Sundre RCMP's acting detachment commander.

"Even for a seasoned professional, this wasa very traumatic scene".

Hodge said one dog was put down at the scene because it acted aggressively towards RCMP officers who responded to the scene. The other was successfully sedated and captured, andis in quarantine.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Rita Phillip, who RCMP say fled the scene and has not been found.

Police believe she is not a threat to public safety at this time.

Sundre is about 115 kilometres northwest of Calgary.
