Spend $52M tax surplus on flood rebuilding, Nenshi advocates

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he wants the $52 million in surplus tax revenue to be spent on rebuilding after last months flood.

Nenshi made the comments Friday afternoon on CBC Radios alberta@noon.

He said he will make the proposal to council on Monday.

Before the flood disaster, Nenshi undertook a public consultation process to gather ideas on how to spend the extra cash,which materialized after the city absorbed the unused portion of the provincial education property tax.

The mayor also told host Holly Preston that he wants to meet with the Redford government to get clarification about the flood zones designated on provincial maps that were revealed last week.
