Driver charged with manslaughter in fatal pedestrian crash

A Calgary driver has been charged with manslaughter after a woman was hit and killed in southeast Calgary Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews arrived at the 4200 block of Macleod Trail around1:50 p.m. MTto find a pedestrian on the sidewalk pinned underneath a black Chevrolet Camaro.

Lacey Yvonne Manion, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 30-year-old Kristoffer Del Campo, was taken into custody and has been charged with manslaughter.

An autopsy revealed Manion died from blunt force trauma.

Driver, victim in a relationship

Investigators believe she had been in the vehiclewith Del Campo moments before the incident.

"The victim exited the vehicle and moments later the Camaro mounted the sidewalk and struck her," police said in a written statement.

Officials say Manion and Del Campohad beenin a relationshipsince February.

"As to the extent of that relationship and the history between the two individuals, we're trying to determine that," said StaffSgt. Doug Andrus.

Andrus says if they can prove Del Campo intended to kill Manion, the charge will be upgraded from manslaughter to second-degree murder.

Fraud charges in Medicine Hat

The couple faced multiple charges in connectionto a Medicine Hatcase involving identity theft and the fraudulent use of credit cards.

Two other Calgarians were alsocharged in that case in May. The four faced a combined 105 criminal charges.

"Police recovered the fraudulently obtained property upon the arrest of the four individuals. Additional fraudulently obtained property was recovered as a result of subsequent search warrants conducted on premises controlled by the four individuals," Medicine Hat police said at the time in a release.

Del Campo's next court appearance on the manslaughter chargeis set for Aug. 14.
