Suspects arrested in man's 2008 slaying

Three men are expected to appear in Calgary court Thursday morning to be charged in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old man two years ago.

Juan Carlos Dequina was found dead in his Chevrolet Blazer on an isolated gravel road on the T'suu T'ina reserve near the intersection of 53rd Street and 146th Avenue N.W. on Dec. 14, 2008.

Two of the suspects were arrested in Calgary on Wednesday at separate locations. The third was arrested by RCMP in Osoyoos, B.C., and escorted to Calgary, police said.

All three face first-degree murder charges.

Dequina knew the suspects, and they are alleged to have lured him to the place where he was killed, police said.

During the investigation officials said Dequina was never known to police, had no ties to criminal activity, and was a "pillar of the community."

Last year with investigators admitting they were stumped for a motive in the killing it was revealed that Dequina had been shot twice from inside the SUV as he sat in the driver's seat.

A Crime Stoppers re-enactment was also filmed last springin the hopes that it would generate new tips in the case.

The names of the accused were to be released later Thursday after the charges were sworn, police said.
