Taber-area teens killed after they 'slammed broadside' into semi, flipping it

A 14-year-old and a 17-year-old from the Taber area were killed when their pickup truck collided with a semi on a rural road Thursday afternoon, according to police.

Two teenagers from theTaber areawere killed Thursday when their pickup truck collided with a semi on a rural road, according to Alberta RCMP.

Coaldale RCMP responded to the collision at the intersection of Township Road 100 and Range Road 192 around 3:35 p.m.

"The 17-year-old driver and14-year-oldpassenger were both crushed within the cab of the truck and pronounced deceased at the scene," RCMP said in a release.

The 25-year-old driver of the semi suffered less serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Lethbridge for treatment.

The investigation found the semi was travelling westbound on the township road and the southbound F350"slammed broadside" into the trailer.

"This was a high-speed impact that caused thesemi and trailer tobe flipped at least once," police said.

The investigation is ongoing but RCMP said there are yield signs posted on both the north and south sides of the intersection between the two gravel roads.

Conditions were sunny and clear at the time of the crash.
