Kenney announces Tanya Fir as new jobs minister after Schweitzer resignation

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has announced a new jobs ministerafter the previous one resigned.

Kenney said in a statement Friday that Tanya Fir will become theminister for jobs, economy and innovation and continue to serve asthe associate minister of red tape reduction.

He said the legislature member for Calgary-Peigan has previouslyserved in the portfolio, so she is "ready to get into the full swing."

The vacancy came after Doug Schweitzer resigned from cabinet. He has said he will also resign as the UnitedConservative Party legislature member for Calgary-Elbow by the endof the month.

Schweitzer had already announced in May he would not run in the nextgeneral election, which is slated for May 2023.
