A teenager faces several serious charges after a car crashed on Bow Bottom Trail, killing a 21-year-old passenger.

Calgary police found the young man pinned under a Chrysler sedan at 2 a.m.Oct. 11 at Bow Bottom Trail and 146 Avenue S.E. The three other occupants of the car had fled the scene, police said.

The Chrysler was travelling southbound on Bow Bottom Trail. While attempting to make a right hand turn on 146 Avenue S.E., the vehicle lost control side slipping and eventually striking the curb. The vehicle rolled over once with the 21-year-old male being ejected, police said in a statement.

Both alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the collision.

Police later located the other occupants and charged a 17-year-old, who had minor injuries, with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, hit and run, operating a motor vehicle without holding a valid operators licence, and use of a vehicle without consent from its owner.
