Telus unveiled plans for a new 58-storey tower in downtown Calgary Thursday.

The 750,000 square-foot Telus Sky will be built on the current site of Art Central at Seventh Avenue and Centre Street.

Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), a firm based in Copenhagen and New York, is designing the $400-million tower.

It will have 430,000 square feet of office space plus 341 residential rental units.

"Following the highest environmental standards, TELUS Sky will be the most significant next-generation property in Calgarys history," Telus official said in a release, noting the project will be LEED Platinum.

The proposed 221-metre tower is scheduled to be completed by 2017.

The Bow building in downtown Calgaryis thetallest tower in the city andWestern Canada at236 metres.

But a proposed commercial development in downtown Calgary may surpassThe Bow.

The developer, Brookfield Office Properties, hasapplied for a permit to construct a 56-storey buildingthat would measure 247 metres.
