Temporary housing for flood victims almost ready

A temporary housing community has been set up in southeast Calgary to house flood victims.

More than 900 people in need of temporary housing because of flooding in Junewill soon have a place to call home.

The Great Plains project manager Bob Holowaty said crews only started building the 712-room temporary housing complex four weeks ago, but thesoutheastCalgarycommunity is nearing completion.

This is a big undertaking for us, and especially to move so fast," said Holowaty, adding especially considering they are working with other companies.

Everybody is excited and ecstatic about what we're doing.

Provincial officials say a majority of those moving to the community will be seniors.

The pop-up town will feature a playground, restaurant and gym.

No date has been set for the first residents to move in.
