For Throwback Thursday, we look back on the Flames fever that swept Calgary in 2004 as the team made their run for the Stanley Cup.

As Calgary Flames fanslook forward to renewing a Stanley Cup playoff rivalry with the Vancouver Canucks, many are also looking back to 2004 and wondering if the city will experience the same magic that took their underdog team all the way to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final.

The city was swept up in an ever-increasing sea of red, and combusted into a phenomenon that transformed 17th Avenue S.W. into the Red Mile.

For two months in the spring of '04, Flames fever continued to grow in our cityeven after the team got burned bya phantom third goal in Game 6 by Martin Gelinas, forcing them to Game 7 and a Tampa Bay Lightning victory.

The Flames wereour hometown heroes, the fans were in a frenzyand the ride was wild. Hang on.
