Hip fans in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto are rejoicing after four new shows were added to the band's highly-anticipated summer tour, which was announced after news broke that lead singer Gord Downie has terminal cancer.

Hip fans in Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Toronto are rejoicing after four new shows were added to the band's highly-anticipated summer tour, which was announced after news broke that lead singer Gord Downie has terminal cancer.

The announcement comes after overwhelming demand in Monday morning's fan club presale throughTicketmaster.

  • Aug.14:Toronto,Air Canada Centre

Another presale will be offered to Tragically Hip fans on Tuesday.Tickets sales to the general public will start on Friday.

The band posted the news ofDownie'sillness on itswebsite last weekand the band's managersreleased more detailsabout it an aggressive, incurable form of cancer called glioblastoma at a news conference at Sunnybrook Hospital shortly after.

Downie was diagnosed with the diseasein December and has since undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

"Since then, obviously, he's endured a lot of difficult times, and he has been fighting hard,"the band said in their letter to fans."In privacy along with his family, and through all of this, we've been standing by him."
