Travellers were stranded both east and westbound as a 145-kilometre stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway was closed between Golden and Revelstoke, B.C., Saturday afternoon and into the evening.

The closure around 2:20 p.m. MT/1:20 p.m. PT was due to a "vehicle incident" near Loop Brook in Glacier National Park, according to DriveBC, the highway-information service. The service also said while the highway was closed, no detour was possible.

DriveBCsaid around 9:30 p.m. MT/8:30 p.m. PT the highway had reopened.

Some drivers caught in the closure told CBC News that traffic was moving slowly once the road reopened due to the amount of cars involved in the closure.

RCMP did not immediately respond to inquiries from CBC News about the incident that closed the highway.

Officials originally estimated the roadway would not re-open until11p.m. MT/10 p.m. PT.
