Tree cleanup in Calgary neighbourhoods continues

The cleanup of broken tree branches continues around Calgary after heavy snow caused widespread damage earlier in September.

So-called "Snowtember"dumped more than 30 centimetres of snow across Calgary in three days, knocking down power lines and trees.

More than 10 million kilograms of tree debris has been taken to city landfills.

The city says is targetingmore than 60 communities for "one completepass through the streets and lanes to clean uptree debris" before mid-October.

Crews will be working in the following communities over the next few days:

• Banff Trail
• Bel-Aire
• Beltline
• Brentwood
• Castleridge
• Cliff Bungalow
• Country Hills
• Coventry Hills
• Dalhousie
• Deer Ridge
• Edgemont
• Elbow Park
• Erlton
• Fairview
• Harvest Hills
• Hillhurst
• MacEwan
• Midnapore
• Millrise
• Mission
• Ogden
• Ranchland
• Sunalta
• West Hillhurst
• Woodbine
• Woodlands

Another80 communities are scheduled to becompleted before mid-November, depending on weather.

The city says there are a few steps residents can take to help crews move faster:

• Please move your car from the street and back alley if possible. Debris will be removed from the front of your property, the back alley, adjacent to sidewalks and on boulevards.
• Please take your regular pruning to the landfill so crews can focus on storm debris.

Citizens in communities cleared of tree debriswho missed the initial sweep are asked to bring their tree branchesto one of thethree city landfillsfree-of-charge, or to one of the32 leaf andpumpkin drop-off sites.
