Tuscany LRT racist graffiti suspects appear in court, 1 now faces hate-crime charges

Hate crime charges were laid Mondayagainst one of the men accusedin connection with the TuscanyLRT graffiti incident.

Miguel Lavergne and Kyle James McKenzie appeared in court but only McKenzie, who remainsin custody,facestwo new charges of inciting hate.

In December, anti-Muslim messages were sprayed all over the station, on a C-Train car and on five vehicles in the parking lot.

Lavergne came to court carrying a red guitar,said he would likely represent himself and refused to comment on the graffiti.

Two suspectswere seenon CCTV entering the Tuscanystation around5:45 p.m. on Dec. 3 and using gold spray paint to write their messages.

Lavergne and McKenzie were arrested days later.
