Advance polls: Calgarians join 2.4M Canadians in casting early ballots, so far

Record numbers of Canadians have already turned out to vote in advance polls.

Record numbers of Canadians have already turned out to vote in the federal election.

DorisFriednreichwas among a large group of people who lined up Monday morning before the polls even opened at the Montgomery Community Associationin the riding of Calgary Confederation.

"Ihave a job on Monday (next week) and I thought I'd get it out of the way, so it's done, because it's important for me to vote," she said."It's a big decision this year and I think we have a lot riding on who is going to be our prime minister."

EvanHagenalso cast a ballot at the same advancepolling station Monday.

"I thought I might be out of town on voting day and I was free today so I just did it," he said.

"I always vote but I felt like it wasprobably more important in this election, especially in this riding," he added."I hear it's going to be very close."

2.4 million advance votes so far

About 767,000 voters cast ballots across the country on Sunday, according to Elections Canada,in addition to780,000 on Saturday and 850,000 on Friday, the first day the advanced polls were open.

That's a total of about 2.4 million advance votes in 2015, up 15 per cent from about 2.08 million in the first three days of advance voting in the 2011 federal election.

There were just three advance voting days in 2011. This year there are four days to cast ballots in advance.

Monday's vote totals won't be available until Tuesday.

General voting day is Monday, Oct. 19.
